Refraction Experiments

Returning from my first Burning Man, I was deeply inspired to start the next thing. I was hooked on being bathed in audio-reactive lighting and these are a few experiments I did. While they’ve still not turned into a real project yet (as of 2025), I still hope to someday use this simple projector-through-crystals setup to make something awesome.

At the time I used Unity3D to create a simple visualization that I then sent out to a projector. I wouldn’t use Unity anymore, but it worked for a test at the time.

Crystal sphere and rectangular prism refracting thin green and pink light beams across a dark surface.
Glass prisms and crystal sphere projecting multicolored light lines in a dark room.
Close-up of red, green, and blue light beams crossing through crystal shapes.
Overhead view of refracted rainbow lines crossing around prisms and a crystal sphere.
Projector light split by glass prisms into a web of colored beams.
Wide view of a crystal refraction setup scattering rainbow lines across a dark floor.
Crystal sphere and prisms refracting bright green, red, and white lines of light.

I have hundreds more videos in different refraction configurations that I just couldn’t post here! I’m excited one day to figure out how to use this in an art piece!
